Liquid fert applications to pasture

Why are you using the liquid fert, is it cheaper or easier. How long do you need to leave it before grazing?

Liquid fert in theory gets to work faster. Plus the ability to apply it in wind/rain/accuracy etc. Some contractors offer it around here. Popular with farmers who don't have the storage for solid fert or can't spare a man or loader for loading. Contractor rocks up with sprayer, wagon turns up and loads sprayer.

Would need to leave it the same as if applying nitrogen as usual.

My agronomist tried to make out its not much cheaper?

In terms of cost there won't be a huge amount in it either way. It isn't done really for cost reasons. In some ways being set up for liquid means you are at the mercy of the small pool of liquid fertiliser suppliers. It is also more expensive to haul as you're hauling a very heavy liquid.

It should (and does IMO) get to work faster as it is already in liquid form when it hits the soil.

Accuracy and easy of use applying from sprayers is a big bonus where I have seen it used, although can soon be problematic if you have small or awkward fields and lots of poles or corners etc.

You will also find less growth of weeds and carp in hedge bottoms as they won't get the odd prill any more. Ideal for some farms to have a contractor turn up and one man can cover a lot of area a day.
