Lister D shearing set

I was poking round in the shed and found a single shearing unit that came with our 1947 Lister D 1 1/2hp.The drive mechanism is fine but the handpiece has seen better days so I wondered whether it was possible to renovate the shaft and handpiece or whether later ones would fit just so it worked?
I always understood they were quite well regarded in their day, don't know if anyone ever used one? I have seen several twin sets with the red frame but this one is just a single unit.
