Looking at upgrading our handling system to something abit better. Main use will be for sucklers & youngstock. I have seen another thread with a new system which looks very good. Hoping to do most of it ourselves. Any pictures to give ideas or little tips etc would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Get ya self a Ritchie stock cube at the back and base the system around that. Best thing we ever bought!

Just looking into this just now cause not not happy with our current system. How many beasts to you fit in the stock cube? Do you have it feeding a race or straight into crush.

I am starting to think of some pens in reducing size, Then cube, the short race or maybe single beast holding then crush.

Any pics of your set up? Where about are you?

Thanks

Sliding or guillotine gates are a godsend in a cattle race I reckon. Once the stock are moving and they can see their mates in front in most cases they can keep going. I have a stretch for about 5-6 head of big store cattle to hold at any one time in the race before the crush. A spring lock or a bar in that length is useful to stop reverse motion... Holding pen behind the race is not quite right as we can no longer force with a gate properly, after a change in the yard (one for next Winter!)

@KennyO the best way to run cattle through the cube is to have 4-6 at a time, that way you can use the forcing gate properly, we have ares running in to a race that can hold 10 fat cattle at a time with crush at the end, but you could have it straight into a crush but we never tried that so don’t know how well they would run! Will take some photos tomorrow for you.
