Is it common practice for Auctioneers to deduct 0.005 pence , Halfpence per kg from the sale price ?? Why would they do this?

Something to do with the meat trade going on strike years ago apparently and the half pence a kilo going to their cause !

I've not come across it before , though we don't sell many through the fat ring, mostly as stores . Seems wrong to me ....the buyers should pay what they bid !

So where does the half p go now? The meat trade don't seem to be in a position to need it any more..

The half pence per kilo deduction was supposedly to contribute to the abattoirs for the offal disposal...some local Marts still deduct it which is a p!ss take...our local mart has done away with it
