A lot of these were 550-640kg when we weighed them 3 weeks ago so don't want them much heavier. As long as they're 12 months old they go. Blood testing for TB in April and they would only pay around £850/head if they go down so if they're anywhere near fit we'll send them. Edit. Just checking comp. tables and it would actually be £1030/head compensation.

Bull beef finisher ad.lib from Berrystock Feeds plus dry silage in a ring feeder. I reckon they'd eat 2t/head from housing to finish. By the time they're going I'd think they are eating around 15-18kg/head. It's around 70%DM.

The salers are a new venture - only had them 18 months or so. The original plan was to keep the majority of them pedigree, but I'm not overly impressed with them so they will most likely get crossed out to either an Angus or charollais

Top one is by a beltex/rouge tup out of the vendeen ewe and the big lad in the bottom is a vendeen out of a texel/llyen ewe.

I'm not familiar with Vendeens, but I was guessing the top one was by a beltex/charrolais so not to far away. They've clicked really well

Today we have had 5 calvings and one lambing. Started with this whopper this morning, took all my strength to pull him round in front of the cow and to get her to sit up, she had him on her own but was completely exhausted.

She will hopefully see the bull first week of June.

I know that Lodge hamlet produces good shapey calves but do you not find them flighty. Any calf here in the last few years that is highly strung has been almost always off lodge hamlet.
