Bit complicated but 44 on 8 axles is the norm here.
New 50 max rules mean one permit lets you go on most roads (more roads opening up to this) up to 50 ton, for some reason our trucks only go to 48.
You can get other permits for higher weights but your limited to set routes on your permit, for example we have 2 trucks doing factory tranships on set routes at 52 ton.

Low limits are because road building standards aren't exactly high. Many roads on south island are still gravel and even the main highways are only tar and chip seal.
