Allowed high gross weights but low axle weights due to lightly constructed road infrastructure basically. Went to a dairy in Kansas 20 years ago that was filling 3 conventional 5 axle artic tankers every day. If you can replace 2 with one that's a big saving in transport costs.

This ones mine 9 axles, only 48 ton and its still limited to 44 on some roads.

Yeah 48 gross, get just under 30,000 litres of milk on. Never had it on a weigh bridge, hope its right

Bit complicated but 44 on 8 axles is the norm here.
New 50 max rules mean one permit lets you go on most roads (more roads opening up to this) up to 50 ton, for some reason our trucks only go to 48.
You can get other permits for higher weights but your limited to set routes on your permit, for example we have 2 trucks doing factory tranships on set routes at 52 ton.

Low limits are because road building standards aren't exactly high. Many roads on south island are still gravel and even the main highways are only tar and chip seal.

On the wagons again last week and here, tipping Wheatfeed Pellets at For Farmers, Radstock and tipping Marble for grinding at Francis Flowers, Gurney Slade. Lastly, loading Hypro Soya at Portbury.
