Log burners with back boiler

Currently planning a large kitchen / diner extension. It will have a new log burner and wonders if it’s worth getting one with a back boiler as an extra heat source for rest of the house. . Currently have gas CH with a traditional system boiler.

Some friends of ours changed from wood burner & back boiler to a dedicated wood burning boiler in their garage / boot room an put a smaller wood burner in the house.

Basically they have a nice wood buner to look at / fall asleep in front of, lit whenever they choose, and the main wood boiler outside the main house to keep most of the mess there. i think it meant they could get bigger logs in ( and wheel barrow right up to it) no risk of ash bombs on the carpet when cleaning out etc.

sounds ideal for drying and warming overalls and boots too (y)

from what they said because it doesn't need to look pretty, just functional you get more bang for your buck as it were!

We had one for years before the biomass went in for the rhi payment. It was linked to the oil boiler so when the fire was off the heating remained on and when the fire was on the oil often just topped up hot water coming from the back boiler. Very efficient if you have your own wood.

Good luck finding one as they've all but been banned under the UK's enforcement of EU legislation at the beginning of 2022:

The only option for a central heating boiler stove is to buy a room heating stove, then order an optional water jacket as a 'spare part'.
PM if you need some ideas.
