Logie durno

Is anyone using the logie maternal ewe. How are you finding them? I used them on our aberfields last year and I’ve got some cracking lambs out of them!!

Hi, do you mind telling how pure are the aberfields? What other breed is mixed in the ewe? When did you lamb? Any pictures of the lambs? That sounds like the ideal cross if all the performance claims are true from both breeds.

They are first cross out of Cheviot and Lleyn. Decided to go with the logie to retain females and to up the scanning %. I’m struggling to get the aberfields to scan over 175% .
We lambed end of March . I’ll post some pictures tomorrow!!

Don't know about maternal rams but I would recommend the terminal rams ,had two durno rams and they are fantastic sheep👌👍

Have used them for 4 years here on Lairg type hill cheviots. Finding this cross to be great milky ewes which produce really good carcase lambs when crossed to Charollais or texel. The wether lambs off the Logie are very saleable too which I am sure is due to the inclusion of Charollais and Texel blood in their make up.

I never get the people who use a Texel based maternal composite, then don’t put the resulting females to a Texel, or other terminal. Isn’t the idea to get to the “Texel x Mule” stage in one go?
