looking ewes

Lamb on my own , check at 11 pm get up at 2 check again, then back out at 5.30 to start the day again , having said this I turned the lights off at night with the last few and it seemed to stop them lambing at night so I shall do that this year as it about killed me last time , don't know if that was just luck ,but it seemed to work !

usually someone around every half hour or so, 24 hrs a day when its in full swing, got a night lamber doing 8pm-4am then i take over for the day, dad's usually around in the day and i sometimes have students about, if a student is fairly good........i put them on the 4am shift and i have a "lie in" til 6am (y)

lights of some sort on all night, but if its quiet, i turn the white flo lights off and turn the old bulk heads on.

When the sun comes out................ Oh these Romney's are easy.(y)

Likewise for my April lambers.(y)

For the pedigrees lambing indoors, I will either check on the camera at around 11pm, 4 PM and then wander out at about 8am, then about most of the day between other jobs........ Or I'll pay someone to sit up with them overnight if I have a big bunch (60+?) all due to one date by AI/sponging.

I know at work my boss believes it isn't economical to pay a man overnight so ours won't get seen from about 5-6pm to 8 the next day.
But my small flock would be 11pm maybe the middle of the night then at 6am

Leave at 11pm then back at 5am only have 150 lambing indoors though, have found that feeding them late, then again early seems to put off lambing at night, have done it for 3 years now and over 80% are born between 5 and 10/11 what I call day! not sure what a normal % would be though because I didnt record times.

Do you mean feed late at night then again early am, or late am then early pm?

I always avoid feeding indoor lambing ewes late, as I've always seen a peak in lambing 1-2 hours after the feeding scrum.

I agree. Feed at 7 o'clock and they kick off just when you ought to be trying to get a couple of hours kip before the midnight rounds.

I feed late as in after 10pm then again as soon as I get back about 5 - probably only have 8-10 lambing per day, but only ever have 1 or 2 when am not there, maybe lucky? but think over 3 years would have seen if it wasn't a pattern - systems will vary, lights and radio on all night

cctv in 2 houses , so checked all the time we are home and not moving tack lambs , though family keeping an eye on tv , radio and lights on 24hrs , next step will be linking cctv to internet so can be checked on the move with smart phone . CCTv most useful for first and last 10% though saves having to go out in cold in middle of night for nothing ,

Exactly----outdoor lambers with a purpose bred ewe need looking at once a day , after 8 am ideally . Back home by 3pm (having driven round all flocks )
Biggest problem with outdoor lambing is trying to get people to leave them alone

Not sure about these Charollais things ----I am advised I will have to look at them twice a day ?
