Hi there,
We're looking for a Huntaway or Huntaway X puppy. Would love to hear from anyone who has or knows about any that have been born recently.

Thanks in advance,

Natalie

This would be my concern too.
We aren't looking for one as a working dog, we'd be looking for one as a family pet. We lead a very active outdoor lifestyle and have been doing a lot of reading about the breed and think it would fit in well with our lifestyle. We're very aware of the level of ongoing training we'd need to do for a breed of this intelligence and need for exercise

I have a Huntaway that works when she is required but makes a fantastic house / yard dog. They are pretty smart and teachable..... at times ?, but do need a hell of a lot of exercise.
im not sure they are really suited to the urban life... but then I don’t live the urban life myself.

Hi Natalie, I have had a Huntaway x Collie for almost 12 years. They are fantastic dogs but require plenty of work and exercise. Incredibly loyal dogs but you will never manage to give it the work/exercise that it needs. I have never managed to exhaust mine I really don’t think they would be suited to a non working environment.
Good luck in finding the right dog for your family.

This is all incredibly helpful information and advice everyone. I really appreciate it.
Our huntaway barks non stop when working but is quieter than our collie when in his run. Collie barks at foxes, dogs, walkers, cyclists etc. We had a litter from the two and all pups have gone to working homes but are also family pets and in my experience they are better than collies as their temperament is superb, they do as other posters say need plenty of exercise and I dont think that can be on lead as they need to cover vast mileages to tire out.

Thank you! That's really interesting.
