Looking for Land in Dorset for Metal Detecting

Hi

I am 59 years old and have recently been made redundant from a job that I held for 29 years, I used to metal detect as a hobby but work commitments meant that I could no longer pursue the hobby, obviously this has now been resolved :)

I live in Poole in Dorset and I am keen to rekindle my interest in the hobby, but am finding it very difficult to gain permission to search farmland in Dorset. I have a genuine interest in history and I am a member of the National Council for Metal Detecting (NCMD), I am a very responsible person and fully understand the countryside code.

I'm sure that you get fed up with being asked for permission all of the time and I fully understand should you wish to ignore my request, but even if you do not allow anyone on your land, if you know of anybody who would who may not read this thread, please could you pass them my details.

Thank you very much for your time

Hi

Thank you to all of you who read my original post.

I would like to ask a serious question, reading all of the similar posts to this one, there seems to be a re-occurring message and that is why would you let a stranger on your land based on a single post on this forum.

I understand your trepidation and I realise that some of you have had bad experiences in the past with so called metal detectorists.

Please believe me when I say we are not all like that, and some of us genuinely do love being outside in the beautiful countryside even when the weather is atrocious. We also get a lot of enjoyment in finding bits of history, it's the excitement of getting a signal and wondering what it might be. Very rarely it may be something of value, but more often than not it will be something quite ordinary, a button, a buckle or other personal items from history.

Sorry, back to my question and I guess the answer will probably be varied......

What would it take for you to allow a stranger to gain permission to search your land. Is there anything that I could do to increase my chances of obtaining permission.

Thank you once again for reading my thread and remember a stranger is just a friend that you have not met yet. :)
