Looking forward to your help!

Parlour one end, not in the middle, or cow flow will become more complicated than it needs to be. Keep it simple. Minimum of gate movements to move cows. Less chance of cock ups and cows are less stressed (and staff!)

Man gets in parlour and does not get out until wash down is finished is the ideal to aim for. Autodrafting gate or locking head yokes are a godsend.
Why would it be complicated the cows enter the collecting yard from there yard at one end of the shed and then exit the parlour back into there yard at the other end?.

Have you got and drawings/sketches for the layout you describe?

Almost like our set up but on a much smaller scale! The parlour bit anyway

Maybe I was a bit cutting yesterday. This is one of the best set ups I’ve ever seen and is exactly what I’d love. Designed by @Agri Design and I honestly think an on site visit to go over all your thoughts would massively benefit you.View attachment 654408 View attachment 654410 View attachment 654412 View attachment 654414

Lovely airy and light shed that. Very very common design in places like Sweden and Denmark. Ideal if you have a nice open site and plenty of flat area. Not sure if the expense of a rapid exit makes much sense for a 'smaller' herd of 200 or less, is there much time saved vs the increase cost and complexity? Better just to have a longer plain herringbone?

I think if your a farmer who milks himself id have the rapid exit, starting to think il have a rotary next time round

Is the layout with the milking parlour in the middle between the two yards a bad design because it is affecting the airflow through the shed?, compared to say Kevin Lawries and others layout where the milking parlour is still parallel but is at the end of the building instead, so not affecting airflow through the building??

Howdy. I have been suffering with the flu and still have it.

Unless you have a large herd I still think a design with the parlour and collecting yard one end is best purely because of cow flow. I will draw you a plan similar to units I have seen.

Milking parlour in the middle with sheds either side you Left handed and right handed cows. Keep it simple and have the cows all moving the same way too and from the parlour.

Ok I can see what your saying, so I think maybe it would be worthwhile me asking everyone to do a sketch of what everyone thinks is the ideal layout if it was for a greenfield site.
With the requirements being for a 150 cows and a milking parlour.
Looking forward to your sketches!
