That is there own fleet. Some are based at Carrington, near Boston. Same site as the large greenhouses and AD and Drying plant. Where was the picture taken?

Aye there’s fitters and there’s mechanics.

Reminds me of a lesson at college. I did ag engineering at reaseheath.

Paired up doing something on a tractor, can't just remember now.

Me and another farming mate had tools sprawling everywhere, all over the bench and floor, other lads had them all laid out on neatly on the table.

Lecturer comes across, 'come on now lads, we're supposed to be technicians, not bloody back street mechanics, get tidied up'. 🤣

Nando’s closed now due to lorry driver shortages…. National news…. Genuine question. You pay a truck driver £10 per hour more ( takes them to 40-60kpa) it would add what , 30p per chicken burger? Would anyone actually notice? Some seriously well off transport company owners must be starting to worry! We have one locally tha is offering a days use of his Ferrari 458 as a raffle prize each month to his drivers….. the irony…. But I guess it’s his money, his company, so fair play
You could say the same about farm produce, if it actually got to the farmer

Haulier local to here has exercised early lease cancellation on a third of his fleet and given up all his low margin contracts as hike in pay required to attract drivers was making it uneconomic. HS2 has been drawing all the tippers and stone for miles around and he lost a number of drivers from his trunking fleet as the drivers can earn same money with no nights out. Can't really blame them.

That sounds a familiar story, do you mind giving me a clue as to who?

im just going to throw this into the works as well, next year all commercial vehicles between 2.2 and 3.5 will need operators etc.thats going to screw the parcel deliveries etcprivate use will not change tho.

Would that change include people like me who have a pick up bought by their own ltd company and who only use them for work purposes?

If so the thing can go. I’m not that bothered with it and can manage with a capable 4wd car.

Where did you read this? Not heard about it and would like the details.

edit: this link suggests it’s not needed for U.K. deliveries, only international.

Fair enough, I misread the link. Of course if we were members then our representatives could have voted against such a rule...
And it would have likely made no difference unless we had used the veto (if it even applied to this). Which somehow I doubt would have happened.

I actually did philosophy at university. at the university of London’s specialist philosophy and theology college.
so many of the people looked and acted like Jim. I f**ked it off and came back farming.
Always wanted to get a second degree and philosophy was the choice. At one time I even had the forms filled, but didn't go ahead. Maybe when I retire

I love it but it wasn’t the right time (18 let loose in London) and many of the people there I could not get on with. I would like to take it up again.

There's quite a lot on here who seem to think we should have a cultural revolution or a year zero and get rid of all the intellectuals me I couldn't imagine anything worse than being a bricklayer or electrician or a lorry driver for a lifetime and it seems a lot of the population think the same. Me I wish i'd had the courage to do a Divinity/Theology degree.
