Lost That Loving Feeling

There is one part of my agri-business that I have loved all my life up until a few months ago, out of the blue I started to lose interest in it and I mean I have really lost interest in it. And its strange because things are going reasonably well in this sector and I weathered the storm for a few years and always remained positive but now I just hate it.

If you have quit in you're mind there really is no going back is there??

Friends and family keep telling me to see how I feel in a few months, but I really have had enough and want out, I just know how dangerous it is to try to run a business you're not interested in.

I'm just finding that the whole thing has knocked me for 6 because life is good at the mo, I have always relished abit of trouble and strife and the long hours but the love has just gone.

I'm not sure if its a question or remark either.

I have always been a dairy farmer at heart and never even in its darkest days contemplated exiting the industry and planned to be milking for many years yet but something has entered my head that its time to leave.

I may sound daft but... I think its not enough of a gamble for me. Really tempted to get back into building houses and really push on the quarrying / recycling/ haulage business I have. Could quite easily divert the grassland into more arable.

And please don't send for the men in white coat's but... I'm really tempted by the pig industry.

I'll swap you!
I've always had a strange desire to have a bash at milking.

Maybe you just need a cowman that can run the dairy whilst you concentrate on your other businesses?

I've always been beef and sheep here but tbh losing interest at the moment

I have a fantastic team of 3 on the farm, but I'm still the "go to guy" when anything goes wrong and there's still the issue of staff holidays and maybe a staff member leaving that you have to remember. And I'm still the one that has to make the executive decisions.

Lots of people have career changes, I've had 3, my brother has had 5.

There's a saying - if you don't do it before you're 50. you'll never do it.
