Just bought a new machine, turned up 4 months late, paint work isn’t great, it was supposed to be custom built, but looks like it was modified after being painted, then re-painted, but there’s lots of runs in the paint work, is this acceptable?

No it is not , would you buy a car with paint work a bad ?

If only JCB made cars, then they would ffffingggg learn how to prepare surfaces and the use of undercoat. Trading standards would crucify sir Tony.

No I wouldn’t, just wanted another opinion.
There’s a small patch that’s been missed, but it’s on show and it’s grey paint over the top of red, and most flat surfaces have runs.

What sort if machine? A paper baler or item if fixed plant,or a stone crusher, for eg, that stands buried in a shed or gets abuse in its operation, paint would not be quite the same problem as would a tractor or trailer perhaps, that is constantly in and outside, wet/dry, and being looked at regularly.

Post knocker. One minute I think I can put up with it, but then I think I’ve paid good money for something that isn’t finished very well.

Throw some images up. Paint is a secondary thought to many people that make things. Trouble is, if it rusts quirkily then it’s life is shortened by years. It’s as important as fully penetrated welds in my eyes.

If you are truly unhappy, I guess you can reject it? But it does betray a "near enough" attitude from the manufacturer.

I think the paint has penetrated ok, but because it was red before they painted it grey every mark or chip shows up, I’ve take pictures but they don’t really show the runs, (the machine is on a pallet in the back of a shed).

Id speak to your supplier. Hopefully you can sort it out from there.

I'd be sending it back and asking them to repaint it TBH.
