Magnesium bolus

I am looking to bolus my cows before they go out to graze. Last year was my first grazing cows and I used the agrimin all trace bolus because we are in the fens of east anglia and I was told there is little copper and selenium in the soil. They were all fine all summer.

This year I want to start doing a magnesium bolus as they will be going on a lot more lush grass.

Is the general one enough to prevent staggers? Or shall I use a specific magnesium one on top of the other. I can't find the agrimin magnesium ones anywhere online for sale and I've no doubt the vet will charge a fortune!! Does anyone have any good stockists?

Thanks

Rumbul (X2) but only lasts a couple of weeks for magnesium.

Ask your vet for a price, we are very competitive on such things.

I'd also advise bloods to find out what you are short of and what you need. A small fortune is wasted on trace element boluses that are not needed. In my career I've told far more people NOT to use a bolus than to use one.

Thanks! I couldn't find them on mole valley lol I obviously haven't got the knack of their website :)

The vet recommended a magnesium bolus when they did my health plan for my farm assured paperwork, I am going to blood test for BVD and lepto before they go out so maybe be worth while to do one for minerals too!

Just edited to add I am not knocking my vet at all as they have been a life saver several times but for example a bottle of 100ml Meloxidyl is £80ish from hyperdrug and over £100 from my vet that's all I meant.

Thanks again

Optimag bolus has more mag in one bolus than the Rumbul bolus has in two and they both claim to offer 28 days supply of mag. Not sure MVF would tell you that!!

OT but mvf website is rubbish. Their search facility is a waste of space - stuff you know they sell online doesn't come up, whilst loads of totally irrelevant stuff does.

Sorry, rant over!

thankyou for all the ever so sarcastic help!!! no wonder everyone thinks farmers are a grumpy old bunch lol :p I do have blonde hair perhaps that's why I can't function to an acceptable level of computer knowledge. I do apologise.

Oh and I can click on a link just about, I just meant they didn't come up when I searched.

Sometimes it pays to pick up the phone and discuss the best option. Vets are a good starting point or find an experienced SQP that you can build a relationship with, someone you can trust and that wants the best for you and your business and not what is best for them and their business!!
