Frost on the ground in parts this morning and we have 45 acres of maize going in today.

I'll let you know in a fortnight wether it was the right call.

We drilled some spring barley on Tuesday. When I was driving up to pick up the left over seed we had a light shower of rain. Surprised me but while I was up there the ground started to steam (possibly not the best photo but you get the idea) so it’s obviously warmer than I thought.

We like it. If you look carefully you will see each unit looks a little wider than normal that's because it actually drills two rows about 5 inches apart with the seed spaced alternately.

Will also do tramlines by shutting one of the pair down and halfing the spacing on the other row.

The field had changed since last year and he found himself coming in the middle of a side not the corner as he had expected. Can't believe in 45 acres I managed to take the one photo when there will have been 30m of wheelmarks.

The start of our maize campaign is levelling last years ruts out.

Along with mounting the maize drill on the powerharrow, hopefully speeding the job up and not needing to work multiple fields infront for the contractor if its catchy weather. On the flip side if its a dry spring it will help with moisture retention.

drilled last year the latest we’ve ever drilled (30th may) best crop we’d ever had across the board,so no rush here either.and I need to cut the grass first

Might grow rice here….. might even be too wet for that! Plenty gone in under plastic which will have a shock if it doesn’t warm up soon

30 year old John Deere planter. Yeah about 80% no till on the corn this year.

My advisory team reckon this could drill without power harrowing but it's an excuse to give the 1455 a run

I bet soils are still very cold, the air still has the chill in it?
