Malting barley - late payment

My malting barley contract states payment will be made 28 days from date of delivery.
Payment was due on 5th Nov, but didn't appear. On querying it they said "We don’t do payment runs at a month end as the ledgers all close at that time. We do a payment run every week outside of that however, apologies that your payment is one that has been delayed by this process."!!! Unbelievable for a large firm. Is this normal?
Payment arrived yesterday 13th Nov (36 days).
If we go outside of spec on contract they deduct every time, how can it be acceptable for them to go way over there terms?
What would be a reasonable to claim from them? £1/ton/day?

Just seems daft for them to issue contracts that they cant keep to. Why issue contract that they know they might not be able to keep? Other contract says will pay 20th month following delivery. We just seem to be shafted every time!!

I'm hoping there not in trouble, but who would know these days! There due to pay me for several other loads on the 20th! Just feel its not very "sporting" of them!
