Malting barley shortage

Aye it is not looking bonny.
Any consolation have sown in May after swedes for sheep.
No great but not murder either.
Wondering what some tatties guys will do when weather turns, both in priorities (tatties or cereals) but also the state of some tattie fields. Some look possibly unworkable, late oats or possible stubble neeps into some.
Still got half a field of let out tatties in the ground from last year.
Never been dry enough to run the grubber through them yet.
Going to be one hell of a work needing done across the country when/if it does dry up.

Yes work load is going to be demanding to say the least.

I'm not keen on fixing either until it looks like we have a crop.

Spoke to a merchant today who thought only 5% of the Scottish spring barley crop had been planted, with a lot of it in poor seedbeds.
It will be interesting to see how it develops

Got 10% of my own SB done yesterday. Rained pretty much all night since. The wind we had from Saturday until last night did some serious drying but back to square 1 now. That is my driest field sown, even it had a damp patch to lift over that I have never seen in it before.
Well done. Not a chance here further south.

Bit the bullet & changed my power harrow tines today. Probably still got 150-200 acres left in them but when it finally dries up don’t fancy having to stop for a couple of hours :ROFLMAO:

Is better in the bag down here that’s another 40mm today on top of last weeks 40mm. The fields that are sown are lying in water plenty of time yet

40 acres sown in Sutherland a month ago, nothing sown at home apart from trial plots which were ploughed and sowed 10 days ago which have a root but are going to be slow. Still ploughing to do but that may plough and sow eventually. Only really the far North which have anything of substance in the soil. Reckon it's a year not have a contract as its all to play for certainly in the distilling sector. Then again they may turn round and take bulkers from abroad.... Ever the cynical twit me!
