We have just replaced a 22 year old Matbro TR250-110 with a JCB TM320s. Looked at the Manitou as well. They are both good machines. The main differences are transmission: JCB 6 speed PS vs Manitou hydrostatic; chassis: JCB has central oscillation vs Manitou oscillating rear axle. The Manitou has smart handling which is a nice feature (it basically booms out for you). The JCB appears incredibly popular and has very strong residual value but was slightly cheaper new than the Manitou.
Both designed to punch literally above their weight compared to rigid equivalents.

we were in the same boat as you 7 years ago with a matbro and a terex and decided to got for a rigid manitou after all of our lives driving telerams but though we could change because we couldn’t have a bigger machine with less reach. We wouldn’t go back now dad who’s 78 wasn’t keen as he’d had pivots since the late 70s but he has adapted

If it was me id be lookin at the construction companys as on volvo case komatsu etc etc but i dont know the model numbers
It’s got to be a JCB. We’ve just changed a 2016 320s with just under 5000 hours on bald tyres for a new one. Total cost of the last one was £5.76/ hr in depreciation and 34p/ hr in repairs. The only repair it had was to replace the headstock at 3000 hours. To be fair it was completely jammed solid with grass on the clamp and JCB contributed 40% of the cost because it’s a known problem.
The new one is a real step on from the last one, much smoother and the engine seems more responsive. I imagine that’s because it’s adblue so they could free the engine up a bit. New one has 3000 hour warranty as standard and wasnt much extra to increase it to 5000 hours so we went for that, so repair costs will be nil with this one for the time we have it.
