Maschio flail topper unbalanced

We've got a Maschio Tigre 280 flail topper. Great machine, eats anything. Until yesterday. Managed to catch a long narrow rock end on that lifted the machine up and over it. Twisted one side of a flail hanger and started knocking. We got the hanger cut off and a homemade replacement welded on.

But there's still a knock and vibration when running it up to speed. Shaft looks straight but always returns to same position when rotated by hand. Is there a way to balance them? Or is it goosed?

I'm planning to try it under load later to see if it is tolerable but wary of doing more damage to machine or tractor.

Home made flail hanger will be your issue. We had this with one. As soon as we put the correct hanger on it was fine.

Yes. Flail was jammed when twisted but swings fine now.

Dealer didn't think correct hangers were available separately as parts when I asked. Vibration under load is even worse so i think shaft must be out of alignment somewhere.

In my experience the weight of the flail hanger makes little difference as long as you've tried to get it as close as possible.
you may be lucky and find it's damaged a bearing but most likely rotor bent.
my advice would be drop the rotor out and stick it on a pallet to frank alvitI.
be warned though most balancing places will only do it with a set of new flails on

Thanks for all the advice. My boss writes the cheques and he said just to drop it off at dealers. They reckoned it sounds like might need a new shaft but are going to check flails and bearings first.
