Massey 135

Hi guys, I’ve bought a 135 but there seems to be no 2 stage clutch for live drive. I was of the opinion all 135’s had a live drive. Or is this just a very early model? The front axle sweeps back, not straight.

guessing your main clutch is worn so the pto clutch needs adjusting internally to be able to feel it. if it hasnt been used for a long while chances are the pto plate will be stuck to one or other of the surfaces too. remove the bottom plate and have a look inside

Ok thanks, so if it’s stuck I wouldn’t be able to feel the 2 stages when I press the pedal? I guess that means splitting it to internally adjust?

you can adjust it thro the hole underneath. look up at the clutch. turn it with a bar until you see one of the three 1/2" headed bolts with lock nuts. adjust the bolt until you can just insert a 80 thou gauge between the head of the bolt and the pressure plate. repeat with the other 2 bolts. then adjust the pedal on the clutch shaft until you have 5/16" free play between the pedal and its upper stop. if this all seems complicated, have a look and then pm me. if the pto plate is stuck it may still require splitting.
