Massey 3070 gear selection

Hi all,

Got a strange intermittent issue on our 94' MF 3070. Occasionally when selecting gear after changing from high/low the gear lever seems to get stuck, can go forwards and backwards (e.g. 1 & 2), but not left/right. If I try and force across for another high low change that seems to free it off. Seems to be an electrical issue, had similar thing happen before and was related to main power solenoid. Also when last used and saw this issue, despite the dash lights indicating a change between high/low, the tractor repeatedly stayed in low range. Tractor only gets occasional use. Struggling to diagnose, any help gladly appreciated!

Cheers,
David

all the 3000 series we had did this. we found that moving the stick in a dilliberate movement and hold to the left for a good couple of seconds gives things time to engage. if/when it happened we just switched off for 5/10 seconds and everything was ok again. worth a try.

These gearboxes have a mechanical latch on the hi/lo fork to prevent hi to lo change on the move in the event if an electrical failure. This means the the gear lever must be held towards your knee while the change us made and not just a quick flick. Maybe your hi/lo hasn't fully engaged and the interlock mechanism is making the lever stiff especially as you say it frees up with a second atempt.

it's a little worn down there but ok, I keep a close eye on it these days after the screw that pinches the shaft came loose!

I had a 3120 with the same problem. In my case the locknut on the linkage behind the right hand step came loose and let the cup drop down. I adjusted the cup back up and locked it off with the locknut to resolve.
