Massey 6270 Fuel Gauge Issues

Hi Folks

Hoping someone can shed some light on a problem I'm having.
I noticed a while back that I had filled the tractor to brim with diesel but guage was only showing half full on the dash.

I used the tractor a few days and the diesel hand continued to drop from half full to empty so I wasnt sure what diesel level was actually in the tractor.

Decided to have a look today at the float in the top tank and looked into the tank at the rear window and can still see diesel in the top tank and the float is sitting on top of the current fuel level...I reached in with a wire coat hanger and pulled up the float (which seems free enough) but when I pull it all the way to the top as far as it would go if the tractor was full of diesel the guage still only rises to half full on the dash

Any ideas on what to look for or suggestions what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

You have a gauge in both tanks, they somehow work in tandem. If you can remove wires from both, earth one at time to see what happens to the gauge
