Hi . Can someone please give me some pointers as to what to investigate as my mf550 has lost operation to the bucket lift. The rest 3 point lifts ok .

Hi. Please excuse my ignorance but I inherited this tractor when I purchased a smallholding.

As far as I can tell it's a single pump powering both the loader and the lift. There is a small 3 way control left of seat that when in center position allows the rear 3 point lift to operate via the 2 slide levers.
With the 3way in another position and using the 2 spring loaded levers right of seat the loader did rise and lower , but has now stopped working.

Could it possibly be lack of hydraulic fluid ? If so where do I fill and how do I check level ??

Thanks for your help

Let's start with the 3 way valve, when it is in the position for the loader do the rear arms still lift ?
I'm not too familiar with the 500 series but I think you may need to have the lever for the rear arms up to make the loader work

3 way in middle position rear lift only works. 3 way in another position only loader would lift . I could never raise / lower loader and lift at same time.
At one time I had to raise and lower rear lift 4 ,or 5 times before I could get any movement on loader ( after moving 3 way )

Yes I understand that the 3 way needs to be in the middle to lift the arms, and the arms won't lift if it's in any other position, but if you could check this is still the case it would confirm the 3way valve is working correctly, it's quite possible that the linkage could have came off

Just since the op mentioned oil too.......maybe you would tell him where to dip it @MF-ANDY. I assume the filler is on the floor to the left of the gear levers? Dipstick at the rear on these or ??
And don't use hydraulic, use universal or multi -use 10 or 15w30.

yes the filler is to the left of the gearlevers under a cap and the dipstick is in the side cover on the right hand side of the rear axle

Hi
With 3way to right and lifers all up , far right spring level causes rear lifts to lift but no way to get rear down until 3 way moved to middle position and slides lowered.
With 3 way to left no combination does anything

Sounds like the 3 way valve is working as it should, can you still tip the bucket? Any pipes have got uncoupled?

I Guys. Thanks for all your guidance.after mucking around with lever positions , then checking all pipe work, now found out that with 3 way to the right, right hand slide lever fully up and opening a valve on loader ( that must have got knocked to off position by accident) when using the left spring loaded lever the loader now works , now quite happy, all I now need to sort out the steering that is rather vague, and I'll have a working tractor.thanks again , Andy
