Massey Transmission oil

Help required. Looking for oil for back end of a 7618 and 6495. Masseys own oil is a 10w 40 transmission oil. Dealer is supplying a 10w 40 universal oil as a cheaper alternative. Pricing around and a different dealer tells me the universal is no use. It's a 10w 30 transmission oil I should be using. I'm confused. All help gratefully received

MF 10W40 oil is recommended and it is a super universal whatever anyone tells you. If it wasn't a super universal suitable for at least some engines, they would not quote engine oil viscosity but use the different scale for transmission oil, which would make it an 80 grade approximately. UTTO do not normally specify any viscosity on the can because it is what it is, an universal tractor transmission oil [and it is fairly thin stuff].
Just check the super universal specification is up to using in those tractor engines, which I doubt, especially the 7618. Check this carefully for yourself.

A UTTO or 10W/30 super universal is fine and very fine for topping the transmission up. MF changed its recommended viscosity from 10W/30 to 10W/40 super universal some few years ago because they claim it makes the brakes last longer. Whether that is significant or not, I have some doubts, but it does make it more likely that owners will use MF branded oil ;) The oil is in fact, for the UK at least, blended by Morris of Shrewsbury and you may be able to buy the exact same oil in Morris cans if you prefer.

If you are in any doubt, read the above more than once. It's quite simple really.

That's the stuff.

For goodness' sake don't buy it off their web site. Prices are significantly cheaper through high volume dealers.
