One of the best cows (isn't it always) has mastitis in two quarters. Had metacam and alamycin as instructed by vet and the dry cow tube things up both teets. Will do same again tomorrow.

Is there any other tips for this? She is in much discomfort.

Will she let you strip it out?

Any oxytocin?

Specifically what are the tubes?

Yeh had her in crate and stripped out as much as could, but not actually much there, quarters just very hard now. She has actually had a bit of the sh1!s too.

Can't remember name right now but will source it tonight when I'm back out. It's for lactating cows though.

Broadly the lactating cow tubes are designed to deliver a high concentration over a short period of time. Dry cow tubes are provided in a long acting base to provide sustained (but lower levels) of antibiotic.

Eg Lactoclox milking cow contains 200mg of cloxacillin and is dosed twice daily. Noroclox dry cow contains 500mg (2.5X) but claims to maintain levels for 4 weeks.

Or just use pen strep
Where did this come about? We have one guy who almost never tubes anything because he heard Pen Strep was some kind of miracle cure.

Currently his cell count is up over 300,000 with 42% running over 200,000 and lots and lots of Staph aureus.

Penicillin doesn't cross into the udder well due to pH. Streptomycin is worse. See table:

You need to tube the quarter to get the antibiotic concentration FAR FAR higher than you can achieve with any injection. Of all the drugs tylosin (Tylan) gets into the udder the best (but has gaps in its spectrum of activity). Injectable treatment is supportive - not curative.

If you can ,on top of drug therapy , warm soapy water massaged and udder cream/mint very good, amazing how much stripping you can get out and swelling down, but it does take time.
