I didnt see it myself.A friend of my daughter sent the pictures.
The floods are reducing now as you can see from that picture. We had 4" in the rain gauge in 24 hours.
Luckily we are on top of a hill so no great problems other than a flooded shed.

Still serious stuff, though. The TV coverage shows it looking awful in so many places.

it’s the bridge support framework. The road is a similar height to the railway bridge and was under water in a couple of places.

Yes it is.
If I remember correctly from my school days, 1" of rain equals 113 tons/acre. We had 4" in 36 hours two weekends ago. I'd never experienced so much in such a short time.

At the moment I'm trying to get hold of my cousin in the leafy suburbs of Sydney. Looking at the maps of the fires it will be a miracle if their property has survived. Two ends of the scale.

Yes indeed. The new defences worked in Sheffield and rotherham quite well but looks like the problem got moved further down the rivers.

flooding in Matlock has nothing to do with defences upstream though. Not sure of the situation there regards river maintenance

No it's the other rivers that have those problems through rotherham and Doncaster.
