McConnell pa93

I am considering buying a pa 93. It's semi independent how does this compare to independent hydraulics.
Is the valve block suitable for independent operation if I change the pumps to suit.

Thanks
Vincent

Depends on the tractor hydraulics. is it cable or electric controls? and from an economic point of view wouldn't make sense to put a tandem set of pumps on. Look for a PA93E................................oooh! and make sure the drive hub has been done on the machine you buy..................................

Good hedger, you wont be disappointed.
I'd say it will be fine using the tractor for the rams and let the hedger run the head, much simpler to fault find if it does give trouble. Cable controls always need feathering (jabbing) on the handle to keep it looking well, but no big deal. Cables will be a few quid. McCord Machinery click, might be worth a look if there's nothing on the telly tonight.

I used one at a harvest job in 03 the only hedge cutter I’ve used. It seamed a good match for the Ford 7810 it was not. He still had it 3 years ago (the last time I was there)

Are you going to put that in the back of a hire van?

Cablecraft was a good move but watch they aren’t quite stiff, we had new levers as well. Consider new bushes in the hedgutter block where the cable pins go as it takes some slop out.

Had ours since new and the ram pump gave up years ago so now plumbed into the tractor and works fine, never understood why someone would go to the expense and potential hassle of an independent machine.

Great we hedgecutter. I used to run one on a 7840 which had a female port for the return pipe which bypassed the spool block. I found The Oil run very warm with the return plugged into the spools.

Did you see the Zetor Crystal with the rail kit and hedger Lyons and Burton has in stock?

Just on the independent V semi, fella down the road bought a new McConnell hedger at a guess 6 years ago & last I was talking to him he was on the third pump for the rams.
Semi does alright for me for farm use, also you can move the arm without starting pto.

I can understand the attraction of having a self contained unit. But, to my mind semi independent is just as good if not better as it does not add any extra operating heat to the brusher's own oil.

If a tractors is big enough to carry a brusher, it will have a cooled, filtered, high flow (possibly flow adjustable) hydraulic system which is more than capable of operating the selection of rams. My 93 is Semi independent and we usually lower the flow to give a more gentle operation.

Anyone any pics of bypassing the small pump? Mines gone stops working when oil it's hot so going to run tractor spools. I know where to plumb the tractor to in the spool block but what do you do with the feed to the pump ect and the pump itself do you remove it or leave it in place. Was condserned if I left it on and it was spinning with no oil in it might seize up and damage main pump?
