McConnell rhino slip clutch

Never been happy with this topper. Its adjusted perfect to the book. Burnt a set of pads out last year. New set again adjusted right but cant get any real throughput like my old one.
What's wrong with it? Could the springs got hot and lost there effect? Machine is 2yrs old, blades good and owned from new. My old 10yr old one would cut anything.

What type of clutch is on it ? The type with belville springs or with coil springs? With belville springs I find if they slip once or twice they are done and need plates and springs but the type with coil springs will take a tighten. I would if you are having bother strip out clutch and replace friction discs and any steel intermediate discs that look heated and twisted they are not expensive. Clean it all up spotless and reassemble in correct order! (Have seen them with steel discs together with no disc between) New springs as well then to set up clutch tighten all springs evenly (I am assuming coil springs here) either measure the lengths or tighten to coil bound and slacken. To check if you have correct tension work the machine hard in rushes etc and as long as it doesn’t hit something it should not slip visibly but the clutch should be warm to touch which tells you it is able to slip eg in hard work it should be able to slip creating warmth but not smoking hop that makes sense.

They are rated to 90HP. What tractor have you got on it?
I've just bought a front mounted flail, and you struggle to find one rated to 200 HP, and then you pay for it.
