McCormick MC135 autospeed range shift failure

Hi, first please bare with me. I have some experience with diseal engines but I'm new to the farming game.

We've inherited a McCormick MC135 Power6 with the optional autospeed transmission from my father in law and annoyingly it fails to shift up and down ranges. It'll shift gears fine.
I asked him about it and he told me he had a similar problem (though I didn't find out exactly what it was!) about 5 years ago and he had to replace the entire autospeed housing with the solenoids.
He's got the old housing with the old solenoids and he's convinced that we can just pull out the solenoids and give them some new o-rings and a clean and they might just work.

Reading other MC135 and MC120 owners posts before with the transmission, seems like they've had to replace the solenoids which isn't a big deal, but I'd not like to waste a couple hundred Euros on them to find out it's the wrong fix or I could have sorted it for free.

Any advice, tips or tricks would be appreciated. I'm learning by the seat of my pants here so hearing so vet farmer or other McCormick owner thoughts would be great.
