Me and my B275 Again!

I'm going to look at a parts tractor tonight. The ad claims the motor runs and has been converted to 12V. Needs a battery and water pump (which I have). It is missing a front wheel and the other one is not the stack wheel, and rear tyre is flat but I don't know why. They also say the transmission is somewhat buggered, it only works in reverse. They are asking 760 pounds for it. Would that be a decent price and any thoughts on the transmission problems. I am really on lt looking at it for the motor, the rest would be bonus spare parts.

I bought it, 635 pounds. starts easily and runs, virtually no oil smoke. The transmission, according to my son the mechanic is that two gears are meshing when you put it in a forward gear, so someone has forced it, but easily repairable. Going to pick it up this weekend, and get started on tearing it apart.

I'd say you got a good deal. I did the same with a B-275 about 4 years ago. the engine was a bare block with all the bits in boxes but it had a good set of tinwork. I paid similar money and considered it a fair deal.

The old Nuffield 460's had a habit of doing that - 2 gears selected together so you were stuffed. Fortunately easily remedied by removing the oil filler plug on top of the gearbox and prying the selectors apart with a screwdriver. {Now try doing that with a modern all singing, all dancing, electronic vario box!]
