walk it, if its dead square and flat the nyou only need two sides
but if not then draw it to scale and break it up into squares/triangles/whatevers easiest

or measure it in yards and then its easy to split up into acres

That would be the most accurate and least prone to errors in my opinion. All too easy to make mistakes with technology and just assume it's right (at least, if you're me!).

Draw parallel lines of equal width across your scaled plan, give and take at the ends to make them square, then simply multiply the total length of your strips by their width, job done. You'll have done it in less time than it takes to load and learn how to use the latest app and it will probably be more accurate!

A planimeter is fine for large areas, but I would use on for a field.

free map tools, they do both a distance measure (for hedgre rows) or an area calculator you just get a google maps up and click it onto satellite pretty easy and you can add new area so do say 4 fields then look at overall total area

What's the best way to measure irregularly shaped plots of land? I have an app on my phone but am not sure how accurate it is. We want to measure the cropped area of the fields, excluding the margins, wild bird cover, tree plantations etc that are dotted around.

Any recommendations, either for a hand held GPS or an accurate app, or another solution altogether, very much appreciated.
