Mengele shearbar set up

Advice please. I've turned my sh 40 shear bar, the face now against the frame is quite worn. The distance to the flywheel disc is the same each end but the top seems closer than the bottom of that makes sense. Struggling to measure it properly. Thought about shimming the bottom holes with thin washers but as they're not really at the bottom of the shear bar doesn't seem right. Any advice really appreciated as there are no knowledgeable dealers around here. Thanks in advance.

Can’t see it making much difference really as it will only chop the grass against the top of shear bar .

There is only one cutting edge Which is obviously at the bottom ,
If the top is nearer to the flywheel disc than the bottom it can’t get at the main edge.there for its like a bad pair of scissors, bad cut , more horse power required, inefficient. Etc

The shear bar must be parallel to the disc And straight up or slightly leaning foreward. else the blades will not be fitted flat & the out come is like trying to sharpen the top of a metal dustbin lid with a flat stone, just doesn’t work.

when this is achieved set the stone parrallel to the blades then your on to a winner

The stone should be flat too

P S. the stone MUST spin , Slightly when sharpening

Simple really. Bad sissors won’t cut paper.

I would have thought it was the top edge of the shear bar seeing as it’s the edge the knives pass first?

Thank you mengeleguru. What is the best way to shim out the bottom of the shearbar? Thanks

After checking it is parallel to the disc (the odd shim here or there)add thin shims equally on both ends at the bottom to square it up so it’s perfectly straight up or slightly leaning forward
