Metal paint workshop kit,

Afternoon all,

A question for any master painters on here
,
I have to paint a-load of old joinery kit,metal and cast iron,

is there such thing as a single one coat cover paint?
Or
Would it not last?
am i better to sand down and start from primer coat?

here example of kit i mean,
Any advice welcomed!

I think I’d take down some of those photos!

Have a look at the TA paints website, they do a one coat metal paint which we find works well. And is good value.

I'm no master painter, but i dabble.

It really depends on how far you want to go with them tbh.
if your looking to do a Rolls Royce job then its a complete strip down, send out for blasting, 3 good coats of undercoat sprayed on (i use jotun jotamastic 85), holes and damage if any filled, sanded again and 3 or 4 coats of 2k paint used with probably a semi gloss finish.
but obviously that takes time... fantastic results tho.

inside conditions the stuff isnt going to rust much, a lesser quicker job is to just sand the existing paint enough for a key for the new paint and apply what you want, as said the likes of vapormatic or sparex paints would do, id be inclined to warm up the paint before id apply it with a spray gun, it makes it stick better i find.

but remember, paint is only colour, its what you put under it that counts.
