MF 3080 won't go into low range.

Hello, as above tractor won't go into low. Have looked all around linkages for the gear lever and it all seems fine, can still get 1-4 . Got a more mechanically experienced mate to have a look and we checked out the solenoids and they all seemed fine, swapped the 4 wheel drive and low/high solenoid over but still no joy. After consulting a couple of people it seems that the only choice is to remove the side plate that that houses the linkages and have a look inside to see if there is something mechanical gone wrong (thinking circlip/ broken roll pin or similar). I would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has done this job or has had the same problem as we're at a loss now and to be honest don't have a bloody clue what to do next. Thanks .

you should have 0 volts at the solenoid for low range so try it with the wire off. do the hi/lo lights change
Hello mf-Andy, disconnected the wire and the gear stick went solid as far as moving it side to side is concerned, it would still move forwards and backwards i.e from 1st to 2nd and the gearbox was in high with the light showing the hare, tried this and different variations of it several times but to no avail, hence why think it may be something in the g/box, as to the swan vest as suggestion-does rust burn?

The lever may have gone solid because with the wire off, the fork was trying to move to low but jammed on the interlock mechanism which prevents hi/lo changes unless the lever is pulled towards your knee.

As i said before do the lights change?
Hello, thanks for getting back to me, the light stays in hare no matter what we've tried, definitely not an indication problem because tractor was definitely in high, remove the wire and the gear lever goes solid, reconnect and the lever jumps toward your knee as soon as the wire is put on.

Side plate off pronto before you knacker something else. It's not scary just get the tractor tipped well over. Either that or pump out most of the oil and then take the back wheel off so you have more room to work.

If you're lights dont change i doubt its internal. Take wires off hi/lo switch just below where the linkage goes into the side cover. One should have 12v with ign on. For saftey extend them into the cab. Pull the lever to your knee then touch the wires together it should change hi/ lo lo/hi each time you touch the wires. If it does, change the switch or if it has more than one sealing washer on it take one off to allow it to screw in further and try it again

Does the oil run out when you remove the switch? Got a similar problem, have to hold lever to left and wiggle a little to make it change.

Doesnt the solenoid direct the oil to a ram/piston inside the gearbox that then shifts the range fromnlow to high range , vise versa? Had the seals give up on me on an old 3125 and it was a gearbox split to fix. Mine decidedbto stop in low range, side cover off and you can lever in to high , untill fixed.
