Mf 38 only got one gear

I've never been among a g/box but I think if there are some balls and springs that hold the selector forks in place then it is probably them at fault.
Anyway eventually after getting the job understood I put her into what looked like 2nd gear instead of third , set the selector fork for 2nd and put the lid back on.
Thankfully I had got it right so now we can manage the hills , we only have one road run of any moment and the roads aren't suitable for top speed anyway.
The knife drive had slipped down the spline of the wobble box output shaft but luckily I spotted that and no harm done.
It's a nice machine to drive though, no regrets just yet.

A shaft on the wobble box on my 7278 sheared yesterday, damned annoying.
New one arrived this morning. Fixed and working by lunch (had to wait till then as it rained first thing).

Why would it shear?
Back in the day we ran a 525 which knackered wobble boxes but a local contractor told my brother to sharpen the fingers with a grinder and we never had any more bother.
I ran the grinder over this one and it has barely got warm.
Saying that it hasn't run long enough yet and I suspect your crops will be heavier than ours, we don't / can't grow wheat.

It's a Schumacher box, different to yours.
I think it's been sheared a long time. Certainly the bit that's now visible hasn't been there since I had the combine anyway.
The shaft had a 90 degree machine line which would have been a nice shear point, the new one doesn't.

Hello.
On My mf 40 the selector has manage to go to the 1-2 gear while the 3 gear is in. When i put in 1 or 2 gear it Will not move. I had to take off the lid and take a crowbar and put gear 3 in neutral.
Regards Gustav.

I've only got the OP manual, will buy yours if you want to sell.
You can have it at cost of postage.
It's quite big and heavy, a little mouse eaten, but very, very handy. No use to me now though. I insisted on a parts book when I bought the 7278. .
Pm your details and I'll try to get it posted tomorrow morning.
