MF 6290

Just leafing through my freshly purchased copy of classic tractor and noticed that a massey 6290 with just 1600 odd hours made over28000 pounds at a dispersal sale. The buyer was a dealer from the south west so he will have to get a twist on it before it is eventually resettled with its newowner . I know the are a fantastic tractor and have no plans to sell our 6000 hour one but the 6180 was under consideration for a change . But is 28000 to much for this gem of a 6290 ? There are many much newer 64 and 76 models for sale for not much more . Or maybe the 6290 would prove a better purchase in the long term given their reliablity ? I ntestingly enough a NH 8060 combine went for very handy money she could serve a small grower well for many more years for little more than a few quid acre .

there was a 6290 on ebay a few moths ago with 12k hours, front link pto wide wheel etc, it was up for just over 11k, i would rather have that and 17k spare for repairs if required.

age related stuff will still fail and it not great with those hours its may have been run cold much of its life not at running temp (depends what its been doing) but it likely.

We went to look at the 6290 to replace ours with 9300hrs on it, but it didn't look very tidy and had no suspension. The engine had had a water leak (as most had at one point) and the side of the engine was rusty.

Was that the one in a sale that had two round weights attached to the weights/weight frame, I did see it advertised.
