Mf 8 speed selector rail

Having machined, heat treated and fitted new plungers on my 575, 2nd is still a bit iffy but 4th is much improved, indeed spot on, suggesting the frontmost notch on the 2nd/4th selector rail was also worn or deformed to some degree. The other three rails and their new plungers are 100% so no more squeaky bum time when it hops out of range downhill under load!

My question, probably for someone like MF-ANDY, is can the selector rails be manouvered out through the gearbox top cover once opened or is it a split-the-bloomin-tractor jobbie? Most likely could just Tig and re machine the notch once out, if it happened I was too much of a cheapskate to fork out 25 quid for a new one LOL

Cheers

Not bad enough to warrant splitting just yet I think, indeed much better than before the plungers were changed.

I'll have another peep in there some time and do a bit of surgery in-situ. Most likely making a slightly different shape plunger or shimming the spring a wee bit between itself and the tail of the plunger or some other tomfoolery with a mini die grinder and the tig welder.

All whilst trying not to fill the transmission with grinding dust or set the tractor on fire LOL LOL

Lifting about 700kg of blocks today in the transport box and hearing that little rattle reminded me I still have to do the two dowel pins into the side of the pump.............always some little job, but we'll get there in the end.

Got be split. Rails come out rearward and are retained by the interlock assembly which can only be got at after splitting

In actual fact, getting the old one out doesn't require splitting....just the hydraulic bolt crops LOL

The reverse procedure however might not be applicable haha
