Hi

Would anyone be able to advise why fluid gets blown back through the filter you can see on the left side of this photo at the top (with the shiny chrome top plate), and not the lift pump as it is taking all the paint off the block - so I am assuming it should not do this, and I do not have a manual for it yet?

I believe it is a 1956 TEF 20:

Do bear in mind it's 60 years old and probably getting a little worn, but nothing to worry about

Hi

Fully understand, but before I start using it around the place - I was trying to gain insight as to the normality of this, as I would rather go into something knowing if this is normal for such a tractor, as I wasn't born when these tractors were made and in use :)

I have a tef20 tractor and have a oil leak on the back left hand wheel, does any one know if there is a hub that holds the oil or is it straight from the transmission

I put an electric hour meter on my TEF. I took a feed from the D+ terminal on the reg' box so it only works when the dynamo is charging since there is no ignition switch on a TEF. I put it on when I rebuilt the engine a few years ago, got about 265 hours on it now.

It'll be gearbox oil, the outer trumpet seals go, usually due to too much endfloat on the drive shafts, they are held in taper roller bearings, too much endfloat and the shafts tend to move about wearing out the seals.
Easily fixed, just take the shaft out, new seal then shaft back in, but do measure the endfloat. ie. measure the amount the drive shaft moves in or out, the two shafts meet in the middle of the diff and on some I have had them slowly grinding into each other.
Just see what play there is, if really bad you may have to renew the taper rollers which is a bit of a faf. On the outer face of the taper roller it may well be badly pitted, in which case best to change. There is a steel collar on the end of the shaft that has to be taken off and then the bearing needs to be carefully "pressed" off, some come of fine and others have to be cut off....!!!
