MF35 Cracked Block

My friend has just purchased an MF35 for £2k, it was sold unseen as "a friend" did a bit of work for the seller and told him the machine was ok.

Collected it yesterday and got it home to find a small crack in the engine block, there is also oil in the radiator.

My thoughts are take it back and get a full refund, but he's keen to investigate the potential cost of repair first.

It starts on the jump start and he says it sounds ok.

i have a FE35 4cylinder 23C Short motor for sale, it still got crank, sump on etc, but the pistons and liners are no good, as its been standing with head off for 15 years inside and rusted up, it wanted a rebuild anyway, if any good for you

engine kit will be sub £300 for an idea that's just pistons and liners plus gaskets

Is that the 23C motor or the Perkins

I explored the cost of rebuilding my FE35-23C and reckon I need to budget £850 - £1000 to do a proper job.
That's allowing for Liners, Pistons, Bearings (Crank regrind if required) and overhauling the cylinder head. new timing chain and tensioner and gasket plus new oil pump..
There is no labour charge in that as I would do all the work myself.
No matter what you budget it normally works out more.
