Office application not opening. Any ideas what the error code is for?

Have you recently had a Windows 10 update? Looks like there is a few updates to Win10 that can cause this.

Hello all. I have been getting this message as of a couple days ago on every Microsoft Office program: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."

Not specific to Office or particularly recent, but happens after things have had updates.

Microsoft speak for "the program cannot start correctly because some of the files this program needs are up the creek, run a repair on the program from control panel"

On Win 7 do Control Panel / Programs/ Programs and Features. Pick the application that's not working (Word) Change / Quick Repair

Later versions I think will be similar but Windows logo key and the letter R to launch the Run window, then type control and the hit Enter. Pick the application that's not working (Word) Change / Quick Repair

Failing that, run the application in safe mode by holding down the Control key as you start it.

Oh, I think that Microsoft Office is a good program pack, but it has a lot of disadvantages

Just download Libre Office.

It's a very potent suite of software but it is not cheap.
