Does anyone know the milk price is so lw?
When we were over quota the milk still found a home and a price now we are not even up to quota and the price has collapsed apparently due to 'over production' ???

Supply and demand. World commodity markets are awash with powder cheese and cream. Hence lower prices. Same as fodder and straw markets. It's simple.

Quota has been increased by x% per year over a few years. The idea was that it was in preparation of quotas going.

Someone will know more I am sure.

World markets are just an excuse We use over 80% of UK produced milk in the UK so cant buy that one.

Liquid yes. So where does the powder from westbury get sold? When the Irish were buying fodder what happened to the price. Bury your head all you like but its the truth.

Soya harvest in USA down has affect on wheat prices. Why?

Several large scale dairy herd sales in the pipeline the next two months in the SW, surprising that they are all pulling out so quick, I thought many would produce milk as cheap as poss from grass in the spring/ early summer and review things come Aug and then poss quit, why are so many quitting so fast?? surely they all aren't selling on the spot market??!!

The chap that had 17 farms under his control who you mentioned about the other week in another thread who had gone bust will see the receivers sell his remaining cows in early March if they can get AHVLA approval as they are under TB2..

is that the man on the link road?
Over 1000 to be sold in local market in March. Could this hamper the trade?

Yep he is near the link road between Tiverton and South Molten, had rented farms everywhere,3000 cattle in all until recently!! would think nothing about hauling artic loads of silage back from the south east/ Yorkshire etc to feed all these cattle, spent most of his time away from the farming business acting as a consultant to Defra on their committees about milk production/ how farmers should farm etc:rolleyes:

Local contractor is owed £68k for slurry pumping in one winter about four years ago.. rumour is he has been told by the recievers that he will get 0.01p in the pound, many more like him so its said... this farmer is now very big in this area pushing BIO Digesters!!

Honiton way!! this chap goes all over the SW pumping slurry, reason he pulled out that winter was because his blokes turned up early one winters morn to carry on pumping ( with the tractors/kit they left on site overnight that belongs to their boss ) and were meet with Blokes in clipboards walking around taking all the details of machinery to repo it all that morn, was said the contractors chaps were not allowed by these people to start/ move their own machines off site until the contractor himself turned up on site with proof he was the legal owner!!

Bought hundreds of cattle from him over the years. Real shame, as his old man is soul of the earth. Is he still messing round with the digester shite. Tool.......

Yep a damn shame as his dad is a decent guy and was a very successful farmer in his own right until his son got big ideas and expand/ borrowed money like there was no tomorrow.. the old dads home/farm will also be up for auction later this year the recievers have said..

The son is pushing the Bio DIgester job like no tomorrow, his company was behind the one hauling maize by tractor/ trailers and artics from Helston back to MId Devon last Autumn for them..

Nearly all the ones being proposed/ built currently in the SW he is behind it is said..

And all this info is already in the Public Domain if you do a google search just to be clear..

Not often im lost for words but after reading thru that link in the PM you sent me I really don't know what to say!!

Some of those small family AG business's will never recover given the vast sums he owes them and hence they will never get..

How he is still allowed to run/ be a partner in his energy business convincing farmers to borrow vast sums of money ( 1 mill + ) is beyond me!!

Will PM you tomorrow about it Sid.
