Minimum fall on an open ditch

I hope this loads OK. The man who used to clean my ditches had dug them out during the war. When he retired, his son took over and he has now retired! He showed me how these ditches should be cleaned and he was at it full time in Morayshire. This lad is making a good job of deepening my ditches. At one gateway, he dug down and found a pipe. Then he went a bit deeper, to get hislevel, and found the original asbestos cement pipe below that! Deepened the ditch about 18 inches which has made a BIG difference! The land here is pretty much dead flat. 500mm fall in 1,000 metres.

looks like he can handle a digger well, not very clean the water coming down it .

I've done that before, tracking up and down a ditch bank several times taking thin slivers of mud out. I just thought it was me being a bit crap at the job and not getting it right first time!

And no, my ditch wasn't on a hill!!
