No mention of the supermarket dominated food system. Using the term: "producers aren't able to pass these costs on" and: "the last thing anyone wants is for consumers to have to pay more" and best of all "We must keep poduction levels up"

Not a word on her non farming paymasters paying more for anything.

“producers aren't able to pass these costs on"

It sounds almost as though she’s speaking on behalf of the supermarkets doesn’t it? Of course when something costs more to produce, the consumers have got to stump up more to buy it otherwise the producer won’t bother producing it- we’re businesses after all not charities.
Supermarkets only hand-wring about the cost to the consumer inasmuch as it doesn’t affect their bottom line too much; so they can keep a lid on the price they pay their suppliers.

Tesco- operating profit around 2.5 billion.

As a BUSINESS, my main concern is to get a decent price for the stuff that I sell (in order that I may stay in business, clothe my family etc). Concern for shoppers paying higher prices when they shop? That’s way down the list.

Why is the NFU hand-wringing so much about consumers possibly having to pay more? I don’t see teachers or nurses union leaders banging on about not wanting too high a pay rise as it would have to be paid by these same consumers.

What an idiot. Has noone told her that keeping production up while profit is low is a bloody stupid idea.

We do want the customers to pay more. They've all got nice pay rises. Time to spend more on UK produced foods and get a bigger share for the primary producer.
Exactly, give the NFU a ring and see if they want a president for the few farmers they claim to speak for.

Suffering an 11 pence per litre milk price cut because production is up.

Amazing ain't it .... price goes to somewhere where there is the potential to make a bit of profit and "Bang" .. farmers pile in and produce more, price goes spiralling down.

FFS, tell the public that supermarkets are NOT their saviours, cut production of surplus milk and hope to hell Putin doesn't fire off nuclear weapons

I'm sorry fellas but if the supposed leader of the NFU cannot address the elephant in the room in plain English can I ask why the heck you are all paying them to be sat in the seat?

If this was the head of the likes of BP or Alcoa, they would be in an interview saying: 'business costs have risen, X,Y and Z are more expensive. Transport is more costly, energy is more costly, the war in Ukraine, rising shipping rates etc etc etc and that would be put forward as the reason why their products were more expensive. Instead you seem to have some supermarket affiliated parrot on a radio show coming out with that bilge?

How can the NFU be lobbying for farmers if they are sponsered by supermarkets. How can minette batters be lobying for farmers if she goes on the radio and essentially tries to help the supermarkets! "Cannot pass the costs on" Why? SUPERMARKETS!!!!!!!!! I am not an NFU member, father is and believes that minette batters is great, wander if hearing that will somewhat change his mind...

She’s completely incompetent and the worst Nfu leader in its history. The sooner she’s gone on her gravy train to the next set up position the better.
