My first choice is obviously winter barley, but I'm too late for it now, as not ploughed yet.
Not keen on spring barley either as it's a September harvest and late to reseed after.
Can't handle w wheat well here, as the moisture is too high off the combine. Rarely below 20%, and often more like 23. Can't seem to get enough propcorn on it to keep it from going off when crushing it after harvest. Too much grain for too little straw.
Winter corn does really well, high straw yield to less grain, and the grain keeps much more easily than wheat. Ideally don't want a lot of grain anyway as I don't want to go arable quality assured. But the big drawback is obviously the straw is pretty rubbish for bedding.
Triticale I know nothing of, or rye. Are they worth considering?
Italian ryegrass? Burn it off just before it drops the seed?
