Unique design of recirculating auger

The "restrictor" system for the auger is clever too, as is automating this on the Smart dryers. App seems a very clever idea too on an auto machine, will it give "notifications" if there are errors or do you need to keep checking in? All it needs now is a robot grain hauler and I can have a one man harvesting operation.

How does the "chute" work on the auto versions - will it turn itself around automatically. I'm surprised it isn't simple to have a second "chute" and a shutter to open/close. I guess rotating gives flexibility on which side it goes etc.

Chute of auto version is rotated by a hydraulic motor, most of the automated operations including the recirculating slide are operated this way. The operator can choose left or right hand emptying on the programme.

Unique design of recirculating auger
The obvious advantage is ease of maintenance & repair, but the real advantage is circulation speed, especially with very wet grain. The slide to adjust the recirculation speed is operated externally, unlike machines with an internal auger where the slide can only be set when empty, and need to be cut down for very wet grain. The Agrex chute can be opened during the during process as the grain gets drier, fast recirculation = faster drying.

Thinking about this again....does faster recirculating mean faster drying?

A bit like those toasters you get in hotels.....faster throughout means more toast toasted per hour......but each slice not as toasted.

I hope the technical explanation makes sense! [emoji106]

Or is it that it can maintain a higher grain temp by exposing it to the heat more often so it doesn't cool so fast? I just realised that a hotel toaster doesn't automatically recirculate the bread!!

Especially in an American hotel when the only use 110 volts then it's only warm bread the first time thru :)

My Mecmar drier has no internal slides to adjust for wet/dry grain, it uses vari pitch augers flights to prevent blockage with very wet stuff, we never had it blocked and it's done some high 20% wheat ok, does your slide adjuster mean the agrex will dry faster (cheaper) than my current drier ?

Toaster analogy works for me, might use it in future !

If the flow of grain is too slow the grain reaches max temp quicker and burner then cuts in and out automatically as it reached max temp, if the grain moves faster then a more constant flow grain temp doesn't cause burner to trip in and out, more heat input, quicker drying time for batch, and avoids hotspots in grain, if that makes sense?

Is there an extra auger to move the grain from bottom of drier to bottom of auger?

No, the loading auger on a normal drier brings grain in to the centre auger, on the Agrex the same auger has a left hand and right hand screw, the auger turns continuously, taking grain from the centre to the recirculating auger or fresh grain from the intake hopper. Other difference is when filling there is no recirculation so vertical auger is only filling and not also recirculating = faster filling.

Yes that's the idea, the adjustable slide is intended to speed up drying time and when filling the slide closes so that the vertical auger only fills bin and does not get slowed down by also recirculating grain from inside the bin, we are trying to speed up the process and hopefully reduce drying costs.
