Mobile pig enclosure

So I have a crazy idea, to get maybe 3 weaners for the freezer and finish them in a mobile enclosure that I can move around to keep the pigs entertained and to get them to eat weeds that need eating, while not causing too much damage.

Firstly is a mobile pig enclosure a viable prospect? Also what have others done?

If at all possible I would like to try and keep away from electric fence as, the location I have in mind, sadly batteries and fencers may not stay there long.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds a very good idea for three finishers. It will need moving very often when they get bigger if you want to avoid a lot of rooted up ground, so the art will be making it handy and light enough to move but strong enough to withstand pigs that have nothing better to do all day than try to wreck their accomodation. It might be worth nose ringing them.

Make a steel sled with 2 outer skis, a fence out of 12mm round along the top of each ski and same again across each end, a few braces across at floor height and build in a covered living area at one end out of sheet.
You could tow it along throwing a bit of straw down under the covered bit each time.

It depends how big they will be when you send them. At about 100kg the minimum lying area for 3 is 1.5 square metres and about twice that for a run, 3sq metres so 4.5 square metres, so for example, 1.5m wide and 3m long in total, if doing your planned frequent moving (or a run of 1.5 by 2 metres) none of that sounds a lot at all. Probably a good idea to extend the run when they get bigger.

Not as big as I expected, sounds very doable.

I’m thinking a towable sled with livening, small run that can then be extended with old feild gates as they grow.

I will keep my eye open for materials.
