Molasses removed on farm due to some sort of contamination

Has anyone been contacted regarding a possible contamination of molasses. the firm who do we not actually buy from, but from one of their suppliers, removed the possible contaminated molasses, but left no paperwork. the normal firm then refilled the tank, and have sent their bill. That was ten days ago and still no sign of any paperwork or the refund for the molasses they took away, which they have evidentially now tested and said was ok!!. Hassle for us, should probably never have agreed to do it in the first place. But having been caught up in the lead in milk scandal, through no fault of our own, I didn’t want another problem. Now I’m thinking it will be in the hands of their insurers and it will be ages before we get money back for the taken molasses.

Why have you received a bill surely it was a simple case of manufacturer recalled product supplied a replacement through your supplier job done if original molasses had already been paid for

Yes I thought that is what would happen. Replace the old molasses for free. we also topped up with some extra, which we obviously expected to pay for .But the bill comes for all of it. But it now turns out that although their is evidentially a credit note coming our way for the molasses taken, it doesn’t cover the price they have charged on the new bill Which included the replacement molasses. so now chasing For the extra. Why cant things be straightforward.!!

I would just have a word with them and tell them you are only paying for the extra molasses over and above the amount they removed

.................you would actually think they would give you some for the hassle that their contaminated feed has created.

Especially if you have fed hormone growth promoter into your cows, that isn't allowed under your Farm Assurance scheme.

No doubt @George&Dragon have made FA aware and ditched all your product !! ;)

Still no joy at the moment, credit note came this morning as expected not covering the replacement molasses. Have now spoken again with the manufacturer who took the molasses back and they have been so helpful but they only sell direct to the company who we get the molasses from and it’s them who bill us the customerl So they have now taken it up with this customer and like us i I think they’re appalled by their behaviour. So we we sit and see

Finally received the second credit note this morning. Of course accounting systems have moved on a month, first credit refund will come off in November, the second credit note refund in December. So when a manufacturer rings you up and says we think there may be a problem with your cattle feed and we need to remove it, make sure you get paperwork to confirm what was taken, and how they will be replacing it either like for like or if they offer a credit note, make sure it’s either for the current value of the product particularly If it now cost more. And how will you refund me.
