Had email today, looks quite tempting but bizarre way to go about it, done by sealed bids but they are paying you :scratchhead:

You have to bid an amount you want to put one in?
Yes between £2800 and £3100, I’m guessing there’s a set pot of money likely to be from development and they will allocate it to the best value for money applications although £300 difference is neither here nor there really

I fear this is the unfortunate future of environment schemes. Government won't want to pay so businesses will be forced to offset their footprint, and naturally they will want to pay as little as possible. These 'reverse auctions' are designed to create a race to the bottom in payments and will result in the lowest possible standards of work carried out.
Lose money digging pond, newts arrive, pond and surrounding area thrown into SSSI, several acres written off

we have an old mill pond, bog now, Ancient Monument site, thought it would be nice to restore it, English Heritage came out to assess, pleased as punch, all i had to do, was, pay for an archelogy survey. roughly £3000, and if that was ok, had to pay for an archaeologist, to be on site, when we did it. Perfectly ok to re-dig the ditch, through the middle of it, and to repair the drains, guess what happened !

correct me if i'm wrong, but this sounds like developers and councils are required to create ponds to compensate for their developments, and they are looking for people mugs to donate their land for free, giving them a few grand for the construction costs?

jeezus fudgeing Christ

I applied for a tenancy earlier in the year where the landlord wanted to create 6 ponds, plenty of reasons to create ponds and funding like this is a great help. Might not be right for you but no reason it isn't for someone else
